اليرقان ابو صفار (jaundice)
السلام عليكم ورحمه الله ليله مباركه ان شاء الله موضوعنا لهذا اليوم ابو صفار Jaundice
Jaundice also known as icterus : is yellowish discoloration of skin and sclera caused by an excess of bilirubin in the blood .
Bilirubin: is waste product that remains in bloodstream after iron is removed from hemoglobin in RBC.
Bilirubin that is circulating freely in the blood is called unconjugated bilirubin. Once bilirubin is in liver called conjugated bilirubin.
Causes and types of jaundice :
1) hemolytic anemia :production of bilirubin increases when large quantities of RBC broken down this type called hemolytic jaundice.
2) acute inflammation of the liver lead to inability of liver for disposing of bilirubin this type called hepatocellular jaundice.
3) obstruction of bile duct prevents the liver from disposing of bilirubin. This type called obstructive jaundice.
Symptoms of jaundice
1) yellowish discoloration of skin and sclera.
2) pruritis
3) fatigue
4) weight loss
Diagnosis
By bilirubin test
Normal level is 0.2-1.2 mg/dl .
Treatment:
Hemolytic jaundice treated by iron rich foods
Hepatocellular jaundice treated by anti viral drugs.
Obstructive jaundice treated by surgery to remove the obstruction
Note. Phototherapy is used to treatment neonatal jaundice.
